**Pocket Gamer Silver Award: “Honed from an earlier release, this much improved version cuts through control problems with impressive, varied gameplay for a rousing and wholly worthwhile adventure.”
**IGN: “Assassin’s Creed looks fantastic. This is a console game for your iPhone that sacrifices very little.”

Issue: Live Mesh is not installed or is installed partially and the customer sees a dialogue stating that Live Mesh cannot install because it is already installed.  Customer is not able to uninstall Live Mesh.

Cause: This experience is typically caused by an interruption in the normal installation process leaving the Registry in a state where certain entries are not removed or added properly.

Possible Workarounds: The Live Mesh installer, LiveMesh.exe, can be used with switches from a command line to install, uninstall, or repair Live Mesh. Note: sometimes you may need to repair the Live Mesh installation before uninstalling it.

Using LiveMesh.exe switches
1. Download the LiveMesh.exe installer
2. Navigate to http://www.mesh.com/ and log in using your Live ID
3. Click on the Devices tab
4. Select Add Device
5. Select your platform choice then click Install
6. Pick the option to Save (remember this location)
If you are installing on Vista, you will need to run these switches from an Elevated Command Prompt.
1. Click on Start
2. Select All Programs
3. Select Accessories
4. Click on Command Prompt (Please note: if you are installing on a Windows Vista computer, you will need to right-click and select Run
as administrator)
5. Once you are in your Command Window navigate to the location that you saved the LiveMesh.exe installer and type one of the following:
LiveMesh.exe /repair (assumes the product was already installed or needs to be repaired)
LiveMesh.exe /uninstall (removes the product)
LiveMesh.exe (no switch, installs the product)

If installing/uninstalling from a Command Prompt does not work, you may need to manually remove the Live Mesh Registry entries.

Manually editing the Registry
1. Click Start
2
. Click Run
3. Type Regedit and hit Enter (if you are on Vista you will need to agree to a UAC prompt)
4. In the Registry Editor remove the following Registry entries:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Installer\Products\9D1E4BCD781B45B479E1418784C5A935
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\<YOURSID>\Products

{May 6, 2009}   Windows 7:Beta-RC-Final

Thousands of users are already testing the release candidate of Windows 7. Many make use of virtualization techniques or dual / triple boot systems to be able to test the release candidate without affecting their main operating system. Some on the other hand have been bold enough to install Windows 7 RC as their main operating system. A big question for those users is if it will be possible to upgrade the release candidate build of Windows 7 to a final build without losing data in the process.

The only official indicator that upgrading from Windows 7 release candidate to Windows 7 final will be possible can be found in the Engineering Windows 7 blogpost about upgrading from beta to release candidate. You might remember the post as it gives instructions on how to override the upgrade protection. One of the last sentences of that article is the following:

These same steps will be required as we transition from the RC milestone to the RTM milestone.

The steps that were outlined for upgrading the Windows 7 beta release to release candidate were the following:

  • Download the ISO as you did previously and burn the ISO to a DVD.
  • Copy the whole image to a storage location you wish to run the upgrade from (a bootable flash drive or a directory on any partition on the machine running the pre-release build).
  • Browse to the sources directory.
  • Open the file cversion.ini in a text editor like Notepad.
  • Modify the MinClient build number to a value lower than the down-level build. For example, change 7100 to 7000 (pictured below).
  • Save the file in place with the same name.
  • Run setup like you would normally from this modified copy of the image and the version check will be bypassed.

It is furthermore very likely that the rtm build of Windows 7 will be distributed with the build number 7200. An upgrade from release candidate to rtm build would therefor require the modification of the MinClient build number from 7200 to 7100 or lower. This would in theory mean that it could also be possible to upgrade Windows 7 Beta to Windows 7 RM using the same procedure.

Just a quick hands up for our readers that Microsoft has finally published the Windows 7 Release Candidate publicly. Users from all over the world can download both the 32-bit and the 64-bit edition of the Windows 7 Release Candidate to their computer systems. The very same announce page that was published accidentally weeks ago is now showing once again containing the instructions on how to download the release candidate. It is available in the five languages English, German, French, Japanese and Spanish. The website itself does not appear to be under heavy load yet but the Microsoft Profile site does. Our predicted server lags and errors for this day seem to come true after all. The release candidate will be available at least through July 2009 which should give anyone enough time to download and install it. There is also no limitation on the amount of keys and downloads.windows 7 release candidate

Users who want to try their luck can do so at the official Microsoft website. The problems at this point in time seem to occur during the login stage of the release candidate download after selecting one of the Windows 7 editions for download.
